BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE (BYOD)

Healesville High School have moved to a Bring Your Own Device model for computer access at the school and partnered with Department of Education and Training preferred suppliers of IT equipment. These companies include

JB Hi-Fi Education Solutions and Learning with Technologies.

We have been using these companies for several years and they both specialise in products designed for school use.

All the computers offered through these portals meet or exceed the minimum requirements to use the network at Healesville High School.

The portal system is set up for all parents, students and staff at the high school and while we are not recommending you use any particular supplier, these ones offer:

  • Flexible payment options

  • Easy pickup

  • 3 Year on-site warranty*

  • The ability to load the eduSTAR software image (If you request).

You may prefer to use another computer supplier eg. Harvey Norman or Good Guys to source your own device. Be aware that you may only get a 12 month warranty.

There is also an “Accidental damage” insurance that can be purchased if you decide to go with one of the preferred suppliers.  This will cover your device for accidental damage such as cracked screens, case damage, liquid spills and hardware failure (This would be covered under the regular warranty for normal goods and services). If you do choose the accidental damage insurance, there usually is an excess to be paid but generally it is a much cheaper option that having to pay for your device to be repaired or replaced.

When you purchase a device, we strongly recommend the following specifications:

Minimum:

Intel i3 or Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor (Or Better)
4 GB RAM
500 GB Hard Disk Drive
Wireless N
Windows 10 or Windows 10 Professional

Recommended:

Intel i5 or Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor (Or Better)
8 GB RAM
256 GB Solid State Drive
Wireless N or AC
Windows 10 or Windows 10 Professional

Free Wireless

All students will have the ability to connect to the wireless network and we will help students connect to our servers / printers and other services. We will have all computers connected to our wireless network, printers, and services within the first two of weeks of term one.

Free Software
All students will have access to free Microsoft Office and access to all the educational software available through a username and password that we will give to the students in an in-service to be run in January 2020 or anytime throughout the year. Some of the software titles include, (Adobe, Wolfram and Freeware etc.)

Portals for Purchasing (Opening from Mid-September 2019)

When using the portals, you will be able to access education pricing which is significantly cheaper than elsewhere in the market.
