Trade Training Centre

Yesterday the Federal Minister for Education announced that we had been successful in our application for a Trade Training Centre. This means that in addition to our total rebuild and Language Centre we will have a technical facility that will be able to deliver TAFE level certificates in Building and Construction, Automotive and Spray painting / panel beating. Though the final figure is still to be decided, our application was for about $2.4M.

This news has a far greater benefit for our students as well. The Trade Training Centre application was made as a cluster. The submission included Upper Yarra Secondary College & Worowa Aboriginal College. As a group we hope that our students will be able to access each other’s programs so that we can provide courses that relate to the needs of employers in the Yarra Valley. In addition to the programs to be conducted at Healesville, we will offer Hospitality and Baking as well as Furniture Making at Upper Yarra and Land care Management at Worowa. The whole program has many business and educational partners. They include TAFE colleges and major businesses that will be able to provide work placements for our students. The total funding for the Yarra Valley Polytechnic (our cluster) is in the vicinity of $3.8M

This is a very exciting announcement for our school. The Trade Training Centre will complement our building program and provide the facilities to broaden the educational opportunities for all senior students. Our aim is to ensure that we provide programs and pathways that align with the needs of employers in the Yarra Valley. We want our young people to be the employees of first choice for the employers of the Yarra Valley.
